A Fable about Power and Humility (Part 2) PDF Print
Written by Graham Porter

For years a huge piece of solid granite stood as a solitary sentinel in the valley riverbed. The river, fed by rains in the mountain range towering to the north, raged down the mountain in a powerful fury, carrying anything that got in its way – until it was forced to pay humble homage to the stone. The powerful river was forced to form 2 different branches as it met the solid strength of the gigantic stone. Where had the stone come from? Was it placed there by the gods? No one remembered the gigantic display of heavenly power that split the stone from the mountain peak many years before.

Bars of Ice-cream and Bars of Soap PDF Print

I’m sure you agree with me when I say, “Ice-cream bars and bars of soap are very much alike!”  Of course they are!  Both come wrapped in slick, non-biodegradable, heavily advertised, gaudy, air-tight wraps that are of no value at all when separated from the contents they protect. Both products are created in sterile, climate controlled environments using heavily guarded secret ingredients. Both products are created to make their creators rich. The production of both provides work for hundreds of people who can then provide homes, security, health coverage and happiness for many families.

Friendship PDF Print

As I walk into my home at the end of my day at work, I look forward to the laughter I know I’ll hear.  My wife is an amazing woman.  One of her gifts is laughter.  She can be on the phone and laughing, laughing with one of our children, she can even be laughing because an amusing thought flashed through her mind.  I’m almost afraid to walk into the house because I know that I’ll be an interruption.  My wife is a friend because she steps into the lives of every person she meets. My mother and grandmother were the same. Their homes were a mixture of laughter and the aroma of freshly baked breads and coffeecakes. I tend to be an outside observer wondering how I can help, heal, serve. I evaluate, judge, anticipate. My wife is pure and simply a friend. She makes others feel important.

Al acercarnos, de repente se movió lentamente a un lado de la calle hasta que terminamos de pasar y luego volvió a la puerta. ¿Dónde estaba su valor?

When I was a child, I used to love playing marbles. Our playing field had boundaries, all kinds of curves, bumps, across streams – depending on the imagination of whose turn it was to make a playing field. Before the game, we could call “steelies” for metal marbles, “peewees” for marbles half size marbles or “boulders” for those larger than the normal marbles. We would draw a starting line and somewhere in the playing field we’d dig a hole.
