King Solomon was regarded by many as the wisest man who has ever lived.  People came from all over the then known world to attend his lectures on science, philosophy and leadership.

 They also came to just see his wealth, the grandeur of his palaces and the temple he built in Jerusalem.  I remember King Solomon mostly for one statement, “There is nothing new under the sun.”  It’s a statement that helps me get through troubles I have, because I know millions all over the world and for centuries past have struggled and conquered the very same troubles.  When I come to a particularly difficult decision, I remember I’m not the first – and won’t be the last – to face the exact same decision.  I love to read standards for living that wildly successful men and women have made in the past and make them my own.  Today, listen to the life standards of a wildly successful king who lived more than 3,000 years ago.

“I will be careful to live a blameless life.  I will lead a life of integrity in my own home.  I will refuse to look at anything vile and vulgar.  I hate all crooked dealings; I will have nothing to do with them.  I will reject perverse ideas and stay away from every evil.  I will not tolerate people who slander their neighbors.  I will not endure conceit and pride.

I will keep a protective eye on the godly, so they may live with me in safety.  Only those who are above reproach will be allowed to serve me.  I will not allow deceivers to serve me and liars will not be allowed to enter my presence.  My daily task will be to ferret out criminals and free the city of the Lord from their grip.”
